My Sheep Know My Voice

John 10:27–30
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

The Bible is a written collection of words inspired by God. It’s made up of 66 separate books, all ordained by Him. We have the privilege of reading His Word and learning what God is like, learning His ways, and His will. For us living today, we have an incredible opportunity to know His Word.

But reading alone is not the best part.

When we accept Christ, we gain a real experience with Him. This creates a true relationship — one where you can speak with Him, and He speaks to you. He reveals His plans, His desires, and His thoughts toward you. If you listen, you’ll hear words of instruction, words of comfort, and sometimes correction. This doesn’t only happen when you’re reading the Bible. His Holy Spirit in you speaks to you.

Reading the Bible is important because it helps you know Him better. It helps you discern that inner voice and make sure it lines up with Christ.

When you pray, listen for His voice. Don’t be the only one talking. Don’t just read off a prayer list and then say “Amen.” There is something richer God has for you. Listen for His voice. Hear His living words spoken to you. His words are backed by His intention to fulfill them. He will share things with you that you wouldn’t know otherwise. He wants you to live life to the full — and living that way requires hearing His voice.

Don’t doubt this is for you. Maybe you’ve thought, “I’m not the preacher,” or “I’m not my mom.” But you are His child. He longs for a real, personal relationship with you. Don’t underestimate your ability to know Him. Don’t underestimate the powerful connection you and God can have.

Prayer:
Father God, I pray for my children to know You — to really know You. I want them to experience the relationship I’ve had with You since I was 16. You became real to me and guided me through so many things. Now be that for my kids as they make decisions about life, school, spouses, and careers. Teach them Your ways. Teach them to know Your powerful voice. In Jesus’ Name.
