Overcoming the Enemy Every Day
Bible Verses:
Matthew 6:13 "and deliver us from evil"
Ephesians 6: 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
1 Peter 5: 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Overcoming the Enemy Every Day
The hard truth is that all of us have an enemy. He is constantly trying to carry out his plan for us—and his plan is nothing less than to steal, kill, and destroy our lives. He hates us and never has our best interests at heart.
If we are not intentional, we can begin to perceive a false reality. Instead of recognizing the enemy at work who is destroying our relationships, we may start viewing a person as our enemy. Yes, people may oppose us, hurt us, abuse us, and cause real harm. In that sense, they can feel like “enemies.”
But if we want to win in life, we must recognize that there is an evil force behind humanity's brokenness.
“We don’t struggle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, and spiritual wickedness.”
The enemy is often behind the hurt and destruction we experience. This is why we must DAILY ask for God’s protection and intervention on our behalf. There is no question about whether the enemy is scheming against us. The real question is whether we are willing to learn how to battle him spiritually.
“Lord, deliver us from evil.”
Every day, I pray for you. I ask God specifically to deliver us from the devourer. I ask Him to frustrate the schemes the enemy has against us. I ask Him to rebuke the devourer, the spirit of disease, and the spirit of poverty.
Help me pray this over our family. Ask God to restore what the enemy has stolen from us.
Prayer:
Father God, today—as I do every day—I ask You to deliver us, the Colson Crew, from the evil one. Rebuke the devourer on our behalf. Restore what he has stolen from us: our health, our finances, and our peace.
God, in You we are more than conquerors. Teach us how to rule over our enemy so that we can walk in victory every day and live life to the full.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
