He Sent His Word to Heal
He Sent His Word to Heal
“He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.”
Psalm 107:20 (ESV)
As we continue talking about the power of God’s Word, we shouldn’t overlook one important truth: God’s Word has the power to heal.
Just like our words can hurt or destroy, words can also bring life and restoration. Proverbs tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue.
The way we speak to others matters.
The way we speak to children matters.
The way we speak even to plants matters.
That last one might sound strange, but let me explain.
When we lived in South Carolina, one of our palm trees almost died after a hard freeze. For a long time, there was no sign of life at all. But I didn’t give up on it. I watered it, added Miracle-Gro, and yes — I talked to it. I said things like, “You are going to live and not die,” and “You are going to grow again.” I said it out loud.
Then one day, a small green spot appeared in the center of the tree. Not long after that, it grew back beautifully. The tree lived. The tree thrived.
Was it the water? Maybe.
Was it the Miracle-Gro? Maybe.
Was it my words? Maybe so.
Here’s the point: what you hear affects your well-being. Filling your life with God’s Word can renew your mind, rebuild your faith, and heal your soul. If human words have power, how much more do God’s words?
As you spend time in God’s Word, don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results right away. Sometimes growth is happening before you can see it.
God’s Word has the power to heal — body, soul, and spirit.
Prayer
Father God, life tends to be unfair and create opportunities that hurt us. From insensitive words, to intentional mean things people can say, we get hurt. It impacts us. Lord, I ask you (and my kids) to forgive me for anything I have said wrong, that has hurt them and I ask you to send your Word to heal them, to renew them, and to help them to thrive in life. God, let your Word heal them in Jesus' Name!
